LifeGroups

LifeGroupsCan you imagine going to a professional ball game alone? You sit beside people you don’t know. You all sing the same national anthem. You all speak the same language. But it’s possible to feel very much alone even though you are surrounded by thousands of people.

Church can give you the same feeling if you are new or just visiting and even if you have been attending for a while. Even though ball games and church are entirely different, they do share a lot of common factors.

It is far more rewarding to attend if you are connected in some way to a smaller circle of people. This is the basis for the small group ministry within the church. It provides for opportunity to get to know people and for them to get to know you as well. In fact, it is the best place for a lot of things: developing friendships, encouragement, prayer, support, and service ... just to name a few.

We all attend for basically the same reasons. While a church worship service can be encouraging, it is difficult to share individual needs. There is no substitute for someone meeting with you and encouraging each other in spiritual matters on an individual basis. Small groups are tailor-made for strengthening and encouraging people in this way.

LifeGroups are the place where you can connect with others here at New Hope. We believe those who participate in LifeGroups not only feel a connection with others in their group, but also more of a connection with the church, their faith and God. We reach out to neighborhoods by meeting in the homes of people throughout the week. While we believe in a strong worship service format, we also know that when Christ wanted to establish his church, He did not go build a building. Rather, they met in homes and in small groups. The principle is timeless and still one of the most effective ways to meet the needs of people.

The last thing we want people to feel like is that they are at a ball game and they know no one. If you would like more information about getting involved in a group, open your home to host a group, or be trained as a LifeGroup leader, please contact the church office or Scott Pearson, our LifeGroups Team Leader.

What to expect
LifeGroups

LifeGroups are a place where newcomers are warmly welcomed. Being our guest does not obligate you in any way and you will not be asked to participate beyond your comfort level. The purpose of LifeGroups is to care for one another and help each individual  move forward on his or her spiritual journey. We offer LifeGroups for all seasons of life: children, youth, adults, PrimeTime, individuals, couples, men only, women only, for support or recovery, for those young in their spiritual journey, for those who are continuing to mature their faith, and more. Please click on the questions below to learn more.

The New Testament teaches us that the first Christians were formed into a group of twelve by Jesus (Matthew 4:18-22). The early church met in homes and shared their lives with each other (Acts 2:42-47). Our LifeGroups vary in size, but most are made up of six to twelve people. Sunday morning on-campus groups may be larger.

LifeGroups meet weekly at various times and locations, either On- or Off-Campus, for a couple of hours. Everyone's schedules are different, and each group is free to decide the best time and place that fits them. Groups are encouraged to have a host apart from the leader. This allows someone to utilize a unique gift, and it takes pressure off of the leader. To see a complete list of the groups, please select either the On-Campus or Off-Campus links below.

More than just another Bible study, each LifeGroup allows time for fellowship, care and accountability, prayer, study, and fun. LifeGroups are a place where people experience spiritual growth the way Jesus taught. Each group is unique, but we all share the common purpose of "loving God, connecting with others, and serving everyone." It's an environment where God is active in people’s lives, creating meaningful relationships in which to celebrate good times, support through disappointing times, and serve one another.

Another component of our LifeGroups is outreach through service. Each group chooses a community project such as working at the Kansas City Rescue Mission, helping a senior citizen with their home repairs, collecting food for the Northland Food Pantry, and more. For an extensive list, please visit our Compassion page in the Serving Everyone section.
